Since July 2017, the former customs house dating from 1896 has been part of the Schützen Clinic. The listed building was carefully renovated and redesigned for the intensive inpatient care of 22 patients. The aim of the design was to preserve the historical substance while creating a calm, health-promoting atmosphere.
Large parts of the original wooden floors and the building and supporting structure were preserved. The rooms were reorganised with respect for the historical structure: the ground floor now houses patient lounges, workspaces for clinic staff and a modern kitchen, while the upper three floors accommodate patient and therapy rooms.
Light plays a central role in creating the atmosphere of the rooms. Generous windows bring plenty of daylight into the building and emphasize the bright, calm color schemes of the interiors. This natural light is complemented by discreet, architecturally integrated lighting. The LYD Wall wall light and the ANNEX Ceiling ceiling light from serien.lighting create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere with their soft, glare-free light – both in the common areas and in the patient rooms.
The project thus combines respectful treatment of the building's history with contemporary lighting design that promotes orientation, tranquility, and well-being.
