Library luminaire ROLF Zurich University of the Arts2016

The redevelopment of the former Toni dairy site in 2005 marked the start of one of Zurich’s most significant regeneration projects. In the up-and-coming Zurich-West district, characterised by its industrial heritage and a vibrant cultural scene, there were no plans to build yet another conventional office complex. Instead, based on a comprehensive feasibility study, it was decided to transform the approximately 24,435-square-metre site into a central campus for the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) – a place for creativity, exchange and focused work.

A place for creativity, exchange and focused work

The transformation of the former Toni dairy processing site began in 2005, marking the start of one of Zurich’s most significant redevelopment projects. Located in the emerging Zurich-West district, shaped by its industrial heritage and vibrant cultural scene, the site was never intended to become just another conventional office complex.

Instead, following an extensive feasibility study, the decision was made to transform the approximately 24,435-square-metre site into a central campus for Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
