Restaurant Casa di Tomilaia, Biancalani₂₀₁₄

During the construction of the Trapezio Fiorentino in Frankfurt, serien.lighting was commissioned to provide lighting for two restaurants and a bar. The unique nature of the site – which spatially separates the different dining areas whilst allowing them to flow into one another and uniting them into a single architectural whole – presented a particular challenge for the lighting design.

The requirements for light and lighting effects change with each room and its purpose. Nevertheless, both formally and atmospherically, the individual room-specific lighting solutions had to interact harmoniously and be perceived as a unified whole: bright, friendly light for the modern "Tomilaia", atmospheric, subtle light for the adjacent "Demarchi Bar", and dignified, atmospheric light for the intimate, refined "Biancalani".

Our solution: In the modern Tomilaia, the REEF range in velour gold, with its organic-looking shades made of ceramic foam and soft light, enhances the welcoming Tuscan atmosphere. Several single-shade REEF Suspension luminaires – arranged in an arched formation in front of the outward-facing glass façade – provide soft general lighting, complemented by REEF Wall wall lights installed in pairs on columns that define the space. Above the restaurant counter, pendant lights by Foscarini ensure the right lighting and design balance, whilst accentuating the counter area.
